Full Description
{1} Three walls were recorded within Area B. One of the walls was standing to a height of 1.3m and formed a 16m stretch of the field boundary adjacent to Beech Road. Of the other two walls only the bases survived. One of these was of drystone construction and built in a boulder construction style, while the other was mortar bonded and built in a regular uneven coursed style. These three walls were clearly of the same structure. They can be reliably dated to the post medieval period on the basis of their styles of construction, and the mortar used to bond them. Also, the structure is shown on a late 19th century OS map, but not on an earlier 18th century map of the area. It is suggested that this building served an agricultural purpose, being located on the eastern edge of the village, it was probably a barn.
