Full Description
{1} Former stone quarries are believed to be present within Newbottle Woods, now known as Newbottle Spinney. The wood straddles the parish boundary between Newbottle and Knig's Sutton. According to a recent local history it was these quarries that were worked to exhaustion before the new ones were opened some 700m to the south east and much closer to the village (of Charlton), in the 1650's/1660's. This would indicate that the quarries in Newbottle Spinney are of early C17th date at the latest.
