Monument record 892/1 - Possible Early Saxon Cemetery, Watling Street

Early Medieval finds including brooches found. Identification insecure, and may relate to finds made from Mon 888/0/1.

{1} Found in 1936. Uncertain if correct grid reference or if belongs to the pagan saxon burials under Mon 888/0/1.

{2} Same as Mon 888/0/1.

{3} [SP 6145 6377] A small A.S. bronze fibula, half a sleeve link, and a dice, probably part of a saucer brooch found. Found on Watling Street and purchased by Northampton Musuem from workmen in 1936.

{4} Northampton Museum holds these objects, with attached to them a reference to Archaeologia 41, 480. But this reference deals only with Anglo-Saxon burials found over half a mile to the south (for which see SP 66 SW 12). So either Mr. Brown's siting is incorrect or the reference has been misapplied. The problem could not be solved in the Museum.
