Full Description
{1} A substantial boundary wall traversed the centre of the site from east to west. It was still partially standing on the site during the evaluation, principally forming the south-western boundary between the site and No 35 Manor Road. The wall was also present in the eastern part of the site, as the south wall of the former machine shed (prior to demolition) and comprising the boundary wall between No. s 28 and 30a High Street. The wall was undated, tough sealed a patchy remnant layer containing only medieval finds beneath it.The boundary that it marks is certainly pre-1760 and is likely to date back to the creation of the tenements in the medieval period. It is not clear when this wall was erected. It appears to have been used as a structural element of Building 2 (130/0/248), and as such may be largely 19th century in date, though the wall foundation overlay a sparse surviving medieval horizon.
