Full Description

{1} The range of stable buildings had been built directly opposite the main hospital entrance to allow for easy maintenance of horses used to transport patients, staff and visitors, from as early as 1876. Cart and plough horses would have been stabled on the farm. The cottages were later set at the front of the complex with a central arch for access to the internal cobbled courtyard and stable blocks, designed to accommodate a Groom and Attendant or Artisan. The stable yard was originally accessed via a gateway from the south. The surviving wall was topped by a stone corbel and moulded bricks.
