Prisoner of War Camp 259 was based at Boughton House, Weekley classified by the Red Cross as a 'German Working Camp'. Demolished and site returned to parkland.

Full Description

{1} Classified by the Red Cross in 1945 as a 'German Working Camp'. It was demolished and restored to parkland.

{2} Prisoner of War Camp 259 was based at Boughton House, Weekley. There were satellite camps at Wansford, Collyweston and Boughton Park.

{3} Information received from Armishaw includes a copy of a PoW 'magazine' produced in 1947 at the satellite camp, Camp 259 at Boughton House. Satellite camps were also based at Wansford, Collyweston and Blatherwyke. That at Boughton Park was still in use as late as 1947.

{4} Weekley, Camp 259 (Boughton House) was the WWII parent PoW camp. It had three satellite camps at Wansford, Collyweston and Boughton Park (Camp 35). It also had three hostels at Harrington, Corby and Blatherwyke.

{5} "There was at 20th Feb 1947 a PoW Camp at Weekley, Kettering (No 259, Weekley Camp)."

{6} Eden Camp Museum at Malton, North Yorkshire has three painted panels on hessian, painted by an inmate at Weekley Camp and hung in the camp's chapel. They were removed when the camp closed in 1948. Photo.
