Full Description

{1} Located at the extreme western side of the Collyweston Hills and Holes SSSI (otherwise known as the Deeps) where it projects out into surrounding arable field (TF0019 0377). The workings lie within scrub woodland just outside (west of) the perimeter fence of the reserve.
The remains are set within a prominent hollow, with probable access ramp to the south. The main features include:-
Vertical mine shaft very approx 5m deep. Roughly circular in plan; cut into natural but with at least part of the sides revetted by stone walling. Boarded over with wooden baulks atop which is a simple movable frame made out of old railway lines- presumably serving as some form of 'winding gear'. Immediately north of the covered over shaft is a spoil heap. This partially overlies, what appears to be a timber/metal revetted 'bin' or possible former redundant addit entrance?
Beyond the spoil heap the hollow deepens and there is a full vertical exposure of the geology. This comprises from the base, orange sand, under limestone log, under other material.
Several lengths of railway line are dumped nearby; fragments of stone also abound.
