Full Description
{1} Watercress beds located immediately below spring on low west side of the Nene Valley approximately 240m north-east of Pilton Church. They occupy a sunken stream bed along the field boundary. They comprise two lengths of mortared stone and engineering brick walls set across the stream to provide a controlled water level over the resulting up stream compartments/beds. Both walls are presumed to have once contained some form of sluice for controlling the water level but now lost. The walls are in poor condition, both having been breached. Watercress still grows in the two beds. Presumed to be of Victorian date.
