Full Description

{1}A sherd of a footed bowl of porcelainous fabric coated with a thick white dimpled glaze dating to the 19th century. After firing, the interior of the bowl received an inscription, initially set out in black paint, which was then enriched with a paint of light brown colour. The light brown paint gave the impression that it contained some form of gold suspension. The sherd was identified as Chinese de Hua ware, the inscription appears to be a profession of Muslim faith written in Arabic script (for further details of its origins see article).
