Full Description

{1} The old school is dated 1883 on the frontage. The building comprises one very large classroom, which appears to have been divided into three by glass partitions, a smaller classrom at right angles to the main room, two entrance lobbies and a boiler room which was added at a later date. Large windows are located all the way around the building.
The building is of red brick construction with blue brick detailing on the corners of the building and around door and window openings. There are decorative stone bands around the main school window at the front of the building. The building is supported by a number of buttresses on either side. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles and a small bell tower is located on the ridge of the roof at the front of the building.
There are one or two surviving features inside the building including the remains of the glass partitions (above the inserted false ceiling), an inserted fire place and radiators and the original school coat pegs (although these may not be in their original position). The mechanism for the clock (presumably that on the face of the building) is located on the floor just below the main window. A decorative wrought iron entranceway was found in the boiler room.
The building has recently been used as a shoe factory by the Northamptonshire firm of Griggs. The main changes to the building were the insertion of a false ceiling in the main school room, strengthening of the floor in this room and the subdivision of the additional class room into toilets and washroom.
The building is unlisted and is to be converted into a single dwelling.
