Full Description

{1}The hollow cast bronze mount was in the vicinity of the extensive area settlement between Nassington and Fotheringhay. The object 42mm long is in the form of a youthful head portrayed in the round. The sex of the object has not been determined. The object has been modelled with lentoid eyes beneath slightly pronounced eyebrows. The hair is depicted high on the brow and the small mouth is almost lipless. It was originally mounted on a square sectioned iron rod or tang, part of which survives.

It is possible that the item was attached to a key shank. The treatment of the individual features is characteristic of provincial Celtic workmanship.
