{1} Monument in Wicksteed Park. Information board nearby "states that the statue of the 'mayflower' was given to the town by black American transport troops in thanks for being allowed to sleep on the floor of the pavilion. The statue was incorporated into the fountain, a plaque on the side of which reads 'Erected in recognition of members of the United State Army stationed in this vicinity during the War 1939-1945'."; Photo;
