Cropmarks and a significant find scatter associated with dark soil indicate the presence of Roman settlement, possibly a villa/large building

Full Description

{1}Uncertain soilmarks; NCCAP:SP9993/1-4+6+7; NCCAP:TL0094/1+2;

{2}Soilmark, aerial photography 1981 hollow way and stone scatter (possibly indicating Romano British road and building).

{3} Shape of rooms seen on ground; site is on level platform; there are many sherds of RB pottery but not much tile; sherds are large & not much abraded suggesting only recent ploughing of site; buildings are ranged around 3 sides of courtyard with possible wall across 4th side; large square room at back of main range is very distinct; site is approx 30m square;

{4} Large dark area with building stone, samian, colour-coated sherds, whetstone, bone, quernstone. One sherd of Belgic or Saxon [need to see]. Additional small site adjacent to NE.

{5} Oblique aerial photograph shows L-shaped soilmark enclosing an area of darker soil.
