Monument record 6115/0/1 - Modern Sand Pit, north of York Avenue

Earthworks of a modern sand pit identified on aerial photography. The earthworks are also depicted on late 19th and 20th-century maps. The sand pit extends further east on the 19th-century maps.

{3}" 'the 'modern sand pit' ... the site also once covered all that became Yorks Garage. ...It was known as the mortar pit as the white sand was used for brickwork common in the village on pre WW1 houses."
