Monument record 2913 - Bulwick

Earthworks of former settlement lie to the south of the existing village.

{2} Settlement remains, formerly part of Bulwick village, lie immediately south of the existing village. These remains were deserted by the early 18th century.

{3} Possibly not taken forward to Stage 2 survey and assessment.

{4} the township lies in the valley of the Willow Brook with Henwick on the west side and Bulwick on the east side. These were once separate townships. Bulwick is not mentioned in Domesday. In the 12th century Survey the Lovets held two hides in Bulwick and half a hide in Henwick. The village known today as Bulwick comprised at least three discrete Saxon or early medieval settlements, since in the mid 16th century the Zouche manor comprised land in Bulwick, Henwick and Hardwick. The wicks may have been small Saxon hamlets, possibly lying within a larger land unit centred on Laxton.
