Summary

Pit alignment identified as a cropmark on aerial photographs. Several pits in this alignment were excavated during gravel extraction between 1976-1980. the alignment is almost certainly a continuation of one identified to the east [HER 3727/0/7]. Three of the eleven pits overlay vestiges of earlier pits. A double pit is unusual but may be the result of gangwork

Full Description

{1} Excavation of an Iron Age pit alignment by D.Jackson. The pits were of even depth and spacing, with squared corners. Two periods of pits were identified. The alignment was cut by the ditch of an Iron Age enclosure.
