Full Description

{3} In the Weldon Stone Company's Quarry just east of Longhills Pit, the upper part of the Upper Lincolnshire Limestone is exposed. More details of strata given. At the present time the only operating quarries are those of the Weldon Stone Company (c.500m WSW of Great Weldon Church). Plate VI(b) (opp p.134). At the south-western corner of the pit a 17ft bed of oolitic freestone is being worked. To the north-east this is split into two lifts by the incoming of a 1ft 3in lens of the oyster limestone known as Weldon Rag.
