Summary

A rectangular mound, 50m and 8m long, was visible to the east of Hermitage Wood, but has now been destroyed and is visible only as a cropmark. Interpreted as medieval by RCHM. Crop/soilmark: Good quality photography.

Full Description

{1} Presumed to be entry for Brampton Ash (air photographs taken by J.Pickering) wrongly located to SP791800 (ie. Rothwell parish). However the text entry reads only "Rectangular enclosures."

{2} A ditched enclosure may be a long barrow or possibly a modern feature.

{3} A mound 50m long and 8m wide, markedly rectangular and flat-topped, lying at right angles to the contours. It has now been destroyed and is visible only as a cropmark. RCHME interpret the feature as of medieval or later date.
