Full Description

{1} Features recovered in Peels Quarry

{2} A Roman building found in 1934 during quarrying operations. A large building, with stone-paved floors was discovered together with a small pillared hypocaust and quantities of 'late Roman pottery'. No other details. Destroyed by quarrying.

{3} Small pillared hypocaust c.5ft wide and much late Roman pottery sherds. Probably part of a small house. Found in Mr C Gordon Peel's pits on the Wansford-King's Cliffe road.

{5} Roman villa found in Peel's Quarry in 1934 (siting as above).

{6} A big building, very extensive, but with only "crazy" stone floors. There was a very good pillared hypocaust but it could be a drying room just as well as a bath or room heating.

{7} Peel's Quarry is now being filled with rubbish. No further information.

{8} Listed in gazetteer of Roman villas.
