Type and Period (2)
Full Description
{1} Includes illustration {6} showing a sheet of water on which float a small rowing boat and three swans.
{3} To the south again (marked 'd' on the earthwork plan) is a large embanked pond which, at its east end, is raised 2.5m above the adjacent ground.
{5} Subject to extensive refurbishment c.4+ ago, and returned to water along all but its western end. Prior to that it was all partially dry/heavily silted. A considerable amount of material reportedly removed including some ?glazed pottery. Most of the spoil was dumped along the pond’s north side apparently masking the earthwork bank recorded by RCHME. The resultant bank is wider and possibly higher than the original.
