Monument record 716/1/1 - Possible medieval/post-medieval windmill

Circular mound, possible cockpit or a windmill mound seen as earthworks.

{1} Fieldname: Moor Close.

{2} Fieldname: The Moat and Fullers Close.

{3} Plan. Interpreted as possible cockpit.

{4} A circular mound, 15m in diameter and only 0.3m high with a shallow central depression. The slight outer ditch is 3m wide, with traces of an outer bank. The surrounding ridge and furrow appears to avoid the mound. Possible windmill mound.

{5} At SP 6567 4684 south west of Foscote DMV, is a circular ditch with a central mound, which the rig and furrow appears to avoid.

{6} Situated at SP 6567 4684. The size, construction and topographical situation of this earthwork suggest it to be a cock-pit. Similar works have been encountered at Flecknoe (SP 5163). Surveyed at 1:2500
