Earthwork: Non-destructive fieldwork

{2} The surviving earthworks in the old parkland east and south of the hall complement the documented history, but also present problems of interpretation because the remains are partly overlaid by later features connected with the landscaping of the area. Some of the village earthworks were even incorporated into the scheme of landscaping.
Quite separate from the remains to the east, south of the hall, on the south side of the lake (marked ‘e’ on the earthwork plan) is another group of earthworks which were also formerly part of Horton village. On either side of the main hollow way are well-marked rectangular closes within which there are several rectangular platforms, probably the sites of former houses.
