{4} The rampart of the ringwork has been cut back, and the ditch filled on the east side towards the church. A gap in the line of the rampart at the west side, leading to a causeway across the ditch was shown in 1968 to be a nineteenth century breach: the site of the original entrance remains unknown. Apart from these modifications the earthworks have survived well, the rampart at the north side standing some 3.66m high above a ditch 0.31m deep. Observations made in the churchyard suggest that there may formerly have been a bailey to the east, enclosing the church with its apparently late Saxon doorway. To the south the line of a sunken lane may reflect a second larger bailey.
