Monument record 384/1/3 - Possible Medieval/Post Medieval Fishponds

Probable Medieval fishponds, consisting of 6 rectangular ponds of various sizes fed by a narrow leat from the River Cherwell.

{1} Shown as "fishponds".

{2} Fishponds (SP 533 562), lie in the valley of the R Cherwell immediately SW of Charwelton Hall, on clay at 155m above OD. They consist of 6 roughly rectangular ponds of various sizes fed by a narrow leat from the river. They are now overgrown and in poor condition but were presumably a set of Medieval stews connected with Charwelton Hall. On the Tithe Map of 1847 they are all described as fishponds. (1)
