Full Description

{1} Excavation of 1882. A Romano-British building is recorded and partly excavated by Rev. R.S.Baker. This area had shown evidence of Roman occupation in the past including pottery, tesserae and building stone. On excavation Baker found 'nothing but the merest fragments of foundation' all the rest having been destroyed by the plough; the building(s) appeared to have been only shallowly buried. Amongst the fragmentary foundations were three piers of rough stone, about 3.6ft square, equidistant from one another, one being at right angles to the line of the other two.

{3} Fieldwalking in 1969 recovered C2nd-C3rd pot sherds, including Samian.
