Summary

A small group of Roman features was exposed during archaeological observation in advance of quarrying. There was a single confirmed cremation burial and five truncated pits containing charcoal but no cremated bone.

Full Description

{1} Isolated cremation burial accompanied by pot sherds of a Romano-British amphora and c.200 Romano-British nails.

{2} Isolated Roman cremation burial accompanied by parts of an amphora and c.200 nails.

{3} A small pit 0.45m x 0.27m deep contained a human cremation, accompanied by about 100 iron nails, or fragments of nails, and part of a cream-coated two-handled flagon, dating from the middle to late C1st AD. There were a further five small, shallow pits containing an abundance of charcoal and displaying traces of burning. They had been largely scraped away during topsoil clearance.
