Full Description
{1} A surface scatter of medieval pot sherds follows precisely the position of the southern Back Lane. Pottery sherds are concentated slightly outside the centre suggesting that occupation was restricted to the village side. 137 sherds of medieval pottery contrasting with 1 sherd of Saxon and 3 sherds of late medieval pottery indicate a relatively short period of activity associated with Back Lane. Probably developed during medieval expansion of the village and fell out of use during period of economic and demographic chage in 14th and 15th centuries.
{2} Linear parch-mark represents a former road. Probably a medieval back lane.
