Summary

The site of a medieval or post medieval homestead moat located east of Armston Hall Farm. The feature has now been almost destroyed except for a water-filled portion which is still used as a farm pond.

Full Description

{1} On rising gound the remains of a large rectangular enclosure, bounded by a ditch up to 1.5m deep, now partly destroyed.

Armston: A homestead moat "near the site of St Mary Magdalen's Chapel" (for this, published at TL 0622 8590, see TL 08 NE 8). No certain information but this moat is very probably connected with the de Trublevilles and their Hospital. (See TL 08 NE 9)

{3} Homestead moat at TL06228583. In 1962 only a short section of the moat survived as a pond.

{6} The moat has now been destroyed except for a water-filled portion used as a farm pond.
