Monument record 2600/0/56 - Possible late Saxon- medieval enclosure (Morphed Aerial Archaeology Interpretation) checked

Crop/soilmark: Good quality photography. Cropmark of rectangular enclosure. A few medieval sherds have been found nearby.

{1} Earthwork visible on aerial photograph. Possible medieval enclosure, 100m x 75m

{2} Air photogrpahs show a rectangular ditched enclosure 100m by 75m orientated north-south. No trace of this exists on the surface although a few medieval sherds have been found nearby.

{4} Trial trench excavation at Manor Farm found a number of gullies and ditches of late Saxon-early medieval date in the area of the cropmark (Trenches 12 & 13). A substantial ditch, which was not bottomed during the evaluation, lay on the same alignment as the cropmark, but the clean clayey fills produced no dating evidence.
