Monument record 2866/0/1 - Pit Alignments, south-east of Collyweston

The cropmarks of possible later prehistoric pit alignments and boundary ditches can be seen on aerial photographs. Summary from record 5935/0/1: Crop/soilmark: Good quality photography

{1} Pit Alignments and ditches (around TF 000023 and 001028) lies south east of the village on flat ground at 300ft above OD on sandy limestone. Air photographs show the junction of two lengths of pit alignments as well as other linear ditches. A linear crop-mark, visible on air photographs running north - south is a pipeline trench. The site is of some interest in showing pit alignments on relatively high land in contrast to their usual setting in river valleys.

{3} Some of the pit alignments and linear ditches described by the previous authority were mapped as part of NMP Northamptonshire. Although this NMP project did not map all the features described (and depicted in source 1) it did map other linear ditches features further to the north. Additional pit alignments were also identified on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken on 2nd June 2009. In particular additional pit alignments centre at TF 0021 0205 and TF 0022 0193
