Summary

Two Roman pottery kilns were found in the north side of Hunsbury Hill in 1875 during ironstone quarrying. Part of the Hunsbury Hill Complex.

Full Description

{1} In 1875, in the ironstone digging on the north incline of Hunsbury Hill were found, close under the surface, two circles of clay props for kilns for pottery - each circle about 4ft diameter. The distance apart of the props, and their disposition, were not stated. One or more bars were found with them. One brass coin of Claudius Gothicus was found with them, and fragments of grey and red pottery. The space underneath was filled up with wood.
