Full Description

{3} A series of linear and curvilinear ditches making no distinct pattern. These features are likely to represent the fragmentary remains of one or more systems of enclosures and fields.
Trench 38 targeted the southern enclosures with the number of ditches indicating that the land divisions were modified. A substantial ditch 0.58m deep corresponded to the eastern boundary of a large enclosure detected on aerial photographs. Only one small sherd of Roman pottery was recovered from the naturally accumulated fill of this feature. A perpendicular anomaly corresponded to the recut north to south boundary of this enclosure. This contained a larger assemblage of Roman pottery and truncated a large pit to the west. The pit contained three symmetrical, possibly dumped, fills. A small quantity of Roman pottery was retrieved from the fills, with tertiary deposit containing articulated animal bone. This was identified in section and not removed.
