Full Description

{3} The land to the west of the railway contains remains of three furlongs.
The part of furlong 2 to the west of the railway has been considerably disturbed by later activity so that only low and intermittent furrows survive. The best preserved furrows are 9m wide and 0.5m high.
The remaining ridge and furrow in furlong 3 represents the north east corner of this furlong which has been largely destroyed by the former railway. The ridge and furrow is well preserved however. It is aligned roughly north-south with a pronounced curve to the west, and is 8.5m wide by 0.3-0.4m high.
Only the western margin of furlong 4 lies within this area and the remains range from poor to moderately well preserved, at a width of 9.4m and up to 0.3m high. The remains have been disturbed by the route of later field boundaries.
Plough headlands separate furlongs 2 and 3, and 3 and 4. They have both been much altered by later activity: they have been used as access tracks to the canal, and parts have been buried beneath upcast material from the canal construction.
