Full Description
{1} Coin of Nero found March 1968. Rev: Genio Augusti. Copper as, RIC Nero 346, 60-4AD.
{2} {4} Romano-British and Iron Age pottery found with flint scraper, Romano-British tile and stone scatter. Air photo taken in 1969 shows marks of a ditched enclosure (no surface indication of enclosure in 1970).
{3} Iron Age and Roman Settlement (SP 83135800; Fig. 35), between the village and Mere Barn, on Boulder Clay at 107 m. above OD. Air photographs (in NMR) show a series of rectangular ditched enclosures with indistinct internal features in some of them, covering an area of about 2 hectares. Finds from the same field include Iron Age and Roman pottery, Roman tiles and a flint scraper, associated with a scatter of stones. A coin of Nero was also found.
{6} Fieldname: Mere Barn. Air photos show four conjoined rectangular enclosures covering in all some 2 acres, with suggestions of internal features in some of them. Fieldwalking in 1959 and later produced a stone scatter, worked flints, Iron Age and Roman pottery, and Roman tiles.
{7} {9} Five bronze coins of the 3rd and 4th centuries found in 1984. Descriptions.
{8} Roman coin, 4th century found c.1985.
{10} Mr Hollowell confirmed the site and said Northampton Museum have all the finds. There is no surface indication of the enclosure.
