Full Description

{1} Bank and ditch earthwork observed. (RFP Rapid Survey?)

{2}{4}{5} 'The Park Bank' is clearly marked on an early C18th survey (NRO Map 1402), running up the western side of The Long Lownd Woods. A ditch running from SP947820 due east divides this part of the park from Snapes Wood.

{3} The entire north-west boundary still survives in Snapes Wood as a low bank up to 1m high with a shallow inner ditch. At the point where it reaches the west side of the wood it turns and runs south along the edge of Long Lown Wood. At the south-west corner of the wood the boundary is broken by modern tracks and then reappears as the outer bank of the west and south sides of a moat at SP94958122 (Mon 2327/1). Its continuation has presumably been removed by Slipton Lodge Farm as no trace now exists.
