Full Description

{1} An agreement for partial enclosure was made between the lord, Robert Matthews and the freeholders in 1509 (GI 50 & 55). The remainder of the parish was enclosed in 1803 (NRO GI 246-7, Bill and Act; Award (1804), M36). The draft map (NRO map 2936) shows furlong boundaries in the open area and gives some of the names, as well as marking the new enclosures. Cow pastures are also shown on the draft map, these have been mapped to a table ‘land use’. The hedges of the ancient enclosures are virtually unchanged on the OS 1880s map.
