Monument record 9840 - Possible prehistoric and Roman activity, east of Welton Lodge Farm
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Cropmarks of a possible prehistoric enclosure and associated ditch were identified on aerial photographs as part of the Northants NMP. Subsequent geophysical survey and trial trench excavation did not identify any archaeological features that correlated with these cropmarks. A possible Roman field system was identified, with a single sherd of pottery recovered from one of the ditches.

Full Description
{2, 3} Geophysical survey identified a series of anomalies, athough they did correlate with the cropmarks recorded previously. Subsequent trial trenching identified several ditches that correlated with the geophysical survey and they were interpreted as a Roman field system. A single sherd of Roman pottery was recovered from one of the ditches. The field system appears to extend south of the evaluated area.
