Summary

Roman pottery was found after the excavation of a pipeline in 1966. 'Ancient' ditches were also observed. Worked flint was found in adjoining fields.

Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking in December 1966 produced a colour coated base and baked clay with grass impressions.

{2} In 1966 a pipe line trench cut through some ancient ditches. Roman pottery and baked clay with grass impressions were picked up from the field surface after pipeline trenching in 1966. Worked flints were also found in adjoining fields.

{3} Fieldwalking recovered pot sherds, baked clay and worked flints. Fieldname: Great Houghton Lodge.

{4} Mr Hollowell confirmed the siting and said the pottery was not retained.
