Full Description
{2}The George Hotel has some tokens in its basement of an early building as if, which is probably the case, the present structure was erected upon a very old foundation;
{3} Early history is somewhat vague. In 1707 John Dryden gave the George to the town as a means of providing money for charitable uses. In 1800 said to be in decay and sold for £1,674. Tenders for improvement asked for in 1846. It closed in 1916 and 1920 it was demolished for Lloyd's Bank.
