Summary

The remains of a mineral tramway are visible on historical aerial photographs and shown on OS maps northwest of Irthlingborough. The tramway connected three separate Brick & Tile Works to the Northampton & Peterborough Branch railway line (Monument Number 1363947).

Full Description

{2/3} The remains of a mineral tramway are visible on historical aerial photographs and shown on OS maps northwest of Irthlingborough. It was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. The tramway extends between SP 93728 69931 to SP 94701 69297 and initially connected three separate Brick & Tile Works (at SP 93701 70013, SP 93691 69783 and SP 94001 69416) to the Northampton & Peterborough Branch railway line (Monument Number 1363947), but was still used in 1926, the northernmost Brick & Tile Works marked on the OS map was also a Cement Works which expanded by 1926, whilst the other works appear to have ceased operation.
