Full Description

{1} Evaluation of 1992. Roman field system represented by a bank and ditch, preserved beneath alluvium. Geophysical survey suggested that it extends for 100m south-west to north-east, although the bank does not survive at its south-west end.

{2} A third linear feature (2) was detected running north-east to south-west from the limit of the survey area by the dumping from the river to the edge of the earthwork ditch and bank. Subsequent excavation confirmed that both ditch and bank survive in good condition. More detail given. In trench 8 the feature comprised a ditch accompanied by a well preserved bank 0.5m high and c.5m wide. The pottery recovered is of a fragmented and abraded nature, suggesting mauring. Unfortunately the small quantity of material precludes quantative analysis.
