Full Description
{1} This leads through to the larger Pool Garden, adapted from Schultz’s original layout, in the centre of which is a circular basin. It still retains his brick-pillared pergola. A seat against the east wall looks across this and through the Dog Gates to the vista down the Gladiator Garden.
{2} Three enclosures form the centre of the ornamental garden. The largest enclosure, the Pool Garden, can be reached through wrought-iron gates between eagle-topped piers from the Statue Walk. This garden is a big rectangle with a slightly sunken rectangular area in the middle. The change is level is retained by a wide, flagged step, so that one can enter the sunken area at any point, and the whole is edged with flagstones to give emphasis to the firmness of the design. Right in the centre is a big ciruclar pool, also framed in paving.
