Full Description

{1} Extensive limestone surface extending across the pipeline corridor, up to 15m wide. A large quantity of small abraded sherds of medieval pottery was found in association with the surface and in adjacent spoilheaps. A D-shaped belt bickle with collared knob on the outside edge and a plate decorated with a zigzag motif was found by metal detecting survey. A similar example is known from a C14th context in London.
Of the 475 sherds of medieval pottery recovered the vast majority was produced by the nearby Potterspury industry. The remainder is coarseware in the south-west Northamptonshire tradition, possibly centred around Brackley. More details of pottery given. The overall date range of the assemblage is c.1100 to c.1350.
