Full Description

{1} A large pit, probably a quarry, extended beyond Trench 3 to the north and east. That part revealed was 14m long x 7.5m wide. The earliest fills contained C12th to C13th pottery. Modest quantities of animal bone were also recovered.
A shallow ovoid pit 2.1m long was cut into the backfill of the quarry. It contained pottery dating to the C13th-C15th, along with animal bone and oyster shells.
A further large pit 3.8m wide x 0.8m deep was revealed and contained pottery dating from the C12th in the lower levels to C13th-C14th in the upper levels.
A fourth pit was notable for a concentration of burnt material within its fills. The upper fills produced animal bone and pottery generally of a C12-C13th date, although three sherds of C15th pottery were also present.
A fifth pit 4.0m wide x 1.05m deep contained C12th-C13th pottery.
Six features were identified to the south of the quarry pit, probably truncated postholes. Three produced C12th-C13th pottery.
