Full Description
{1} Recovery of artefacts in Field 96 was hampered as it contained a high cereal crop. Ten flints were recovered, along with four sherds of Romano-British pottery (and two sherds of medieval).
The assemblage was dominated by the occurrence of small, netaly made flints, blades and retouched pieces produced from prepared cores. Most pieces were soft hammerstruck. All were consistent with an early Neolithic date, with no evidence of earlier material.
The distribution of flints was sparse enough to suggest the lack of associated archaeological features. The range of flint-working debris would suggest that manufacture was taking place somewhere in the vicinity, but nowhere was found in sufficient quantity to suggest a production site.
