Full Description
{1} Head stud brooch and coins of Gordian III and Probus. Found by M. Porter 1992, seen at Northampton Museum.
{2} Romano-British sttlement site represented by 309 sherds of pottery, the larger of two concentrations found within Field 9. The pottery included 221 sherds of grey ware, 50 sherds of colour coat, 23 sherds of calcite grit, 8 sherds of samian, 6 sherds of grogged ware, and a sherd of mortaria. Five fragments of tegula and one of inbrex were also recovered. Other finds from the scatter comprised two Roman coins, an antoninianus of Gordianus (238-44 AD) and an aurelianus of Probus (276-82 AD), as well as a headstud-type bronze brooch, pin missing, dated to c.50-200 AD. Site B, shown on sketch plan.
{3} In 1992 fieldwalking by M. Porter identified the presence of two Romano-British pottery concentrations, the larger of which measured c. 60m x 50m. Over 300 sherds of pottery including grey, colour-coat, grogged and samian wares were recovered, along with five fragments of Roman tile, including pieces of imbrex and tegula. In addition a headstud Romano-British brooch and two Romano-British coins were found, an aurelianus of Probus (276-82 AD) and an Antoninianus of Gordian III (238-44 AD).
