Full Description
{1} Public House. 1900-01. By William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. Coursed squared stone with thatch roof and right ridge and left end stacks with moulded ashlar linked double and quadruple flues. Vernacular Revival style. Canted plan, the centre canted forward with the roof descending to first floor level forming a verandah between a 2-storey cross-wing on either end. Here a leaded 3-light stone mullioned window with hoodmould over similar 4-light window. Within the verandah are part-glazed doors and similar 2- and 4-light windows. On the roof above a 2-light and 3-light dormer set with picturesque asymmetry. Set into the far right gable a VR post-box. Further mullioned windows and doors on ends and extension to right and to rear. INTERIOR: bar area is a single large space. Part of the significant group of the model estate buildings of Ashton built by Charles Rothschild.
