Full Description
{1} Trench 6 contained three east-west aligned ditches: ditch 607 had a wide and uneven profile with a concave base, ditch 605 had a U-shape profile and cut through ditch 607, and further to the north ditch 609 had a V-shaped profile.
The sequence of ditches appear to form part of a field system … the ditches are generally aligned perpendicular to and beneath the later medieval ridge and furrow. It is unclear whether the ditches relate to Roman or medieval activity though it is possible that they formed part of the open fields to the surviving medieval village earthworks at Upton, situated 1km to the east.
