Full Description

{1} One side of the drainage trench was cleaned to a section. In the section a layer of mortar, small stone and dark loam tipped toward the river, and this in turn overlay another layer thought to be Iron Age in date. If the mortar is of Roman date, as seems likely, it suggests that there were walls or floors of this period nearby.
