Full Description

{2} Approx centre SP77209022. To the south is a large shallow area of quarrying cutting ridge and furrow. The earthworks to the north of the site comprise a series of abandoned closes aligned north south. These are separated by low scarps, banks and ditches. A ditch or hollow way defines the southern end of the closes; a possible north south track is also preesnt along the side of one of the closes. Some internal (gardening?) features are present inside at least one of the closes. The remains appear very similar in character to those recorded by RCHME to the west of the village. This indicates that Sutton bassett once had a markedly rectangular layout based upon 2 adjoining blocks of closes aligned east west and north south.
